The BOE met on June 13th for the regular board meeting and took the following actions:

  • Josh Meyer spoke about building another building in the Industrial Park.

  • RJ Poeppelman spoke about his Eagle Scout Project of installing a flag pole at the track/soccer complex.

  • Approved the minutes of the May 7th regular board meeting and the May 24th special board meeting.

  • Approved the Treasurer's report by the fund, the Investment report, and the cash balance report as presented.

  • A discussion was held on attendance to the HB 9 Ohio's Public Records and Open Meetings Act. Previously, the Board designated the Treasurer to attend this meeting on their behalf. Auditor of State, Keith Faber, is now requiring a board member to attend. This will start for our Board in January 2020 since this is when the next election will be held for school board members.

  • Moved to amend the Certificate of Estimated Resources and make supplemental appropriations and modify appropriations as presented. Also approved the Treasurer to establish fund 499-9019 and modify the Certificate of Estimated Resources by $8,109 should grant money be received before June 30 for a BWC grant.

  • Approved a $141,517 transfer from the Debt Service Fund (Fund 002-9012) to the Permanent Improvement Fund (Fund 003-0000). This transfer was approved by the Shelby County Budget Commission on June 4, 2019.

  • Approved Temporary Appropriations for FY20 as listed:

General Fund - $1,200,000

Debt Service - $200,000

Enterprise Funds - $100,000

Special Revenue - $80,000

Capital Projects - $50,000

Fiduciary Funds - $20,000

  • Set the pay for substitute teachers for the 2019-2020 school year at $90 per day.

  • Set the lunch, milk and ala carte prices as indicated for the 2019-20 school year. New lunch prices will be Grades K-6 $2.00, Grades 7-12 $2.30 and Adult $3.00. The milk price was increased to .40 cents.

  • Adopted the following Resolutions of Commendations

* Adriana Jutte was District Champ in the 100m and in the 300m hurdles and qualified for Regional competition. At Regionals she placed 4th in the 100m and 300m hurdles qualifying her for State. At State, Adriana placed 8th in the 300m hurdles earning her All-Ohio.


* Grace Homan was District Champ in Shot Put and Discus qualifying her for Regional competition. She was Regional Runner-up in Shot Put and the Champ in the Discus qualifying her in both for State. At State, Grace placed 4th in both Shot Put and Discuss earning her All-Ohio.

  • Approved payment to the tournament/site manager, athletic trainer, scoreboard operator, ticket taker and announcer at the rates established by OHSAA for a tournament sporting event for the 2019-20 school year.

  • Accept the following donations: $1,000 from Josh and Jessica Meyer for the Cara Meyer Scholarship, $500 from Janell and Joe Welker for the Nick Welker Scholarship, $932.50 from the Botkins Athletic Booster for the fence at Cole Field and $4,804.60 from the Botkins Athletic Boosters for the Boys Basketball Program.

  • Adopted the resolution to approve a calamity day attendance plan.

  • Hired the following personnel as presented:

  • Hired Jasmine Brown and Connor Stutsman as seasonal summer help.

  • Approved proposed changes to the District's Plan for the Identification and Service of Children Who are Gifted.

  • Accepted the resignation of Debbie Faulder as Aide effective June 19, 2019.

  • Hired Ryan Gutmas as a summer tutor.
