The Botkins Board of Education met in regular session on February 11, 2015. The Board took the following actions:
v Boy scout Jacob Snider attended as a requirement for a Boy Scout Merit Badge.
v Heard a presentation by Balanced Literacy Task Force committee. The program was discussed by staff members. The literacy grant is an overall approach to ELA – all elementary teachers are participants.
v Approved the minutes of the reorganizational meeting and regular board meeting on January 14, 2015.
v Approved the Treasurer’s report by fund, the Investment report, and cash balance report as presented.
v Approved the posting of casino revenue received January 30, 2015 of $16,335.53 to the textbook set aside fund.
v Heard from the following committees:
· Buildings and Maintenance – reported a leak in the roof of the 1991 addition.
· Park board – there is a board now and they have new members.
v Read a congratulatory letter from the Village council and Mayor on the success of the auction.
v Approved overnight trips as presented for the following:
· 6th Grade trip to Henry Ford/Greenfield Village – May 14th & 15th, 2015
· FFA State Convention – April 29th – May 1st, 2015
· FCCLA State Convention – April 23rd & 24th, 2015
· NHS – Service trip to Booneville, KY – March 13th & 14th, 2015
v Approved book fees for the 2015-16 school year with no increases.
v Hired Jennifer VanSkyock as a tutor per salary schedule.
v Adopted the 2015-16 school calendar as presented.
v Recognized indoor track as a sport for the 2014-15 school year. The sport is recognized from February until the conclusion of the State Track meet on March 7, 2015 and appoints Ryan Gutman and Fred Schmerge as volunteer coaches.
v Moved to participate in year 5 of RttT.
v Heard an update on College Credit Plus. We are working on an agreement with area colleges for 2015-16 school year.
v Entered executive session to discuss investigation of a complaint.
v Set special board meeting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday February 17, 2015 to award contract for Demo/Reno project.
v Reviewed high school graduation requirements for the Class of 2018.
v Reviewed College Credit Plus program to be implemented the 2015-16 school year.
v Learned that we will participate in the Oral Health Screening for 3rd grade students.
v Heard a building update - Contractors are finishing final punches on the building. For the most part all items are complete. Saturday, January 31st – final punch lists were completed. We are missing some furniture which is backordered. We have revised the entry way buzzer. We believe additional parking will be approved.
v Learned the auction went well and that there will be a 2nd auction.
