The Botkins Board of Education met in regular session on June 8, 2016. The Board took the following actions:
Approved the minutes of the May 9, 2016 regular board meeting and the minutes of the May 20, 2016 special board meeting.
Approved the Treasurer’s report by fund, the Investment report and cash balance report as presented.
Moved to amend the Certificate of Estimated Resources and make supplemental Appropriations and modify appropriations as presented.
Approved the following Then and Now purchase order: Perry Pro Tech for the annual maintenance for the archiving system for $3,031.00.
Approved Temporary Appropriations for FY17 as listed.
Set the pay for substitute teachers for the 2016-17 school year at a rate of $90 per day.
Set the lunch and milk prices for the 2016-17 school year as follows:
o Grades 1-6 $1.90
o Grades 7-12 $2.20
o Adult $2.90
o Kindergarten Milk $0.10
o Grades 1-3 $0.25
o Extra Milk $0.25
We are required to raise prices a minimum of $0.10. A waiver is being sent to the State to not raise lunch prices. Ala Carte prices were also approved. Also approved the Nutrition Standards for all foods sold in the school.
Adopted the following resolutions of commendation as presented:
o Chloe Flora – District Champion in 1600m run and 3200m run qualifying her for Regionals. She was also Regional Champion in the 1600m run and 3200m run qualifying her for State competition. At State she was Runner-Up in the 1600m run setting a new school record with a time of 4:53.13 and earning her All-Ohio and placed 13th in the 3200m run.
o Kayla Heuker – 3rd in 800m run at Districts qualifying her for Regional competition. She placed 9th at Regionals.
o Adrianna Jutte – District Runner-Up in the 300m hurdles and qualified for Regional competition. At Regionals she placed 5th.
o Micah Smock – District Champion in the 300m hurdles and qualified for Regional Competition. At Regionals she placed 8th.
o Josh Miller – District Champion in the Discus and the Shot Put and qualified for Regional competition. At Regionals Josh was Regional Runner-Up in Discus and placed 3rd in Shot Put qualifying him for State competition. At State Josh placed 6th in Shot Put and setting a new school record with a throw of 52’ 11” and earning All-Ohio. He placed 9th in Discus.
o Grace Homan – District Champion in Shot Put and placed 3rd in the Discus qualifying her for Regional competition. At Regionals she placed 3rd in both the Discus and Shot Put qualifying her for State competition. At State Graced placed 13th in Shot Put and 16th in Discus.
o Garrett Williams – 3rd in the 200m dash qualifying him for Regional competition. At Regionals he placed 14th.
o Joe Shuga – 3rd in the Shot Put at Districts qualifying him for Regional competition. At Regionals he placed 11th.
o Girls 4 x 400m Relay Team consisting of Kayla Heuker, Hannah Bailey, Chloe Flora and Adrianna Jutte – District Champions qualifying them for Regional competition. At Regionals they placed 4th qualifying them for State competition. At State they placed 9th.
o Girls 4 x 800m Relay Team consisting of Kayla Heuker, Hannah Bailey, Chloe Flora and Adrianna Jutte – 3rd at Districts qualifying them for Regional competition. At Regionals they placed 7th.
o Boys 4 x 800m Relay Teac consisting of Cameron Flora, Aaron Fullenkamp, Konnor Burmeister and Austin Fullenkamp – 3rd at Districts qualifying them for Regional competition. At Regionals they placed 8th.
Approved payment to the tournament/site manager, athletic trainer, scoreboard operator, ticket taker and announcer at the rates established by OHSAA for a tournament sporting event for the 2016-17 school year and set the local athletic ticket taker at the minimum wage.
Accepted the $500 donation from Aaron and Holly Lenhart to be used for Cole Field and the donation of $1200 from the Bernard (Shorty) Steinke family in memory of Audrey Steinke to be used for the softball program.
Adopted the resolution to approve calamity day attendance plan.
Set the date of June 20th, 2016 at 6:30 PM for the purpose of awarding the bleacher bid.
Approved the resolution authorizing the EPC to purchase competitive electric service from low bidder June 2017-May 2020 as presented.
Adopted new board policy 3223 – standard based school counselor as presented.
Entered executive session to discuss employment of personnel and negotiations.
Left executive session.
Approved agreement for salaries as presented.
Hired Rob Berryman as Intervention Specialist for the elementary unit on a 1 year contract per salary schedule. Hired Jodi Grillot for a position yet to be assigned.
Hired the following summer seasonal workers at $8.10 per hour – Cassie McGowan and Blake Maurer.
Hired the following extracurricular employees per salary schedule:
o Brad Schmerge – Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
o Daniel Schneider – Assistant Varsity Boys Soccer Coach
o Heath Geyer – 7th Grade Boys Basketball Coach
