The Botkins Board of Education met in regular session on March 14, 2016. The Board took the following actions:

Mr. Ryan Gutman and National Honor Society officers Jared Goubeaux and Taylor Doseck discussed their service project to Booneville, Kentucky.

Heard a presentation by Ashlee Zimpfer and Carrie Topp concerning adding a Learning Trail with stations for primary students.

Approved the minutes of the February 10, 2016 Board of Education regular meeting.

Approved the Treasurer’s report by fund, the Investment report, and cash balance report as presented.

Approved filing cash (or OCBOA) financial statements with the Auditor of State’s Office until further notice.

Heard from the following Committees:

o Buildings and Maintenance –

§ Outlets for buses are complete at new building.

§ There should be lights in the parking lot by the end of March.

§ Working on lighting

§ Still issues with boiler system

o Finance & Audit –

§ Audit is still not complete

o Park Board –

§ Discussed the plans for the track

o Technology –

§ Purchased laptop cart and will be purchasing an I-pad mini

Non-renewed all supplemental contracts effective at the end of the 2016-17 school year.

Adopted a resolution of commendations for the below:

o The 7th Grade boys basketball team and Coaches Rick and Heath Geyer were named Shelby County League Champions and ended their season with a 15-3 record.

o Joe Shuga was a District Qualifier in the 100 Back. He was seeded 30th and placed 25th with a time of 1.00.72, as a personal best.

o Jonathon Yenser qualified for State by receiving 1st place for Extemporaneous Public Speaking at the District FFA Public Speaking contest.

o Emma McName, Emma Ewry, and Chloe Richardson qualified for the Regional Power of the Pen.

o Drew Ewry, Jared Goubeaux, Amber Buehler, Bella Ewry, and Olivia Ewry finished 1st in the small school division and 2nd overall at the Wright State Scholastic Bowl competition.

o SSA Choir received straight I’s at District competition qualifying them for the State competition.

Approved a resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying to the county auditor.

Accepted the $4,000 donation from the ABC’s for the purchase of I-pad technology.

Issued a contract to Phil Snider for April 1st through August 15th, 2016 and hired Josh Schwartz as JV Baseball Coach.

Approved a Board Resolution Approving Settlement Agreement and Mutual Release of Claims with Reiter Dairy, LLC and Authorizing Board Representative to Execute Settlement Agreement and Mutual Release of Claims.

Moved to participate in Ohio School Comp for the 2017 Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Program. The third party administration is CompManagement. Enrollment fee is $130.

Accepted the resignation of Mary Lou Pitts due to retirement.

Received the following updates:

o Learned a new scholarship fund will be established with the Community Foundation.

o Building updates:

We continue to work on completing minor items with the building project. The cameras/lights will be installed on the north parking lot. The electrical outlets for bus plug-ins have been installed on the west parking lot of the school. Reviewed the plans completed by Garmann/Miller for completion of the track. Information will be shared with the Booster’s next month.
