The Botkins Board of Education met on July 12th for the regular board meeting and took the following actions:

• Approved the minutes of the June 14, 2023 regular board meeting

• Approved the Treasurer’s report by fund, general fund activity, the Investment Report, and the 5-year review of General Fund Activity as presented

• Approved to accept the following donations as presented:

  • $186 from Meyer's Tavern to be used for the Girls Basketball fund

  • $303 from Meyer's Tavern to be used for the Boys' Basketball fund

  • $750 from an anonymous donor to be used for the Becky Grillot Scholarship fund

  • $3611 from an anonymous donor to be used for the Softball fund

• Accepted the resignation of Jason Jones as Varsity Baseball Coach as of 6/26/2023

• Approved to hire the following personnel as presented:

  • Sybil Koenig - Grade 3 Test Prep (tutoring)

  • Heather Wing - Grade 3 Test Prep (tutoring)

  • Tina Paul - After school tutor

  • Raquel Brown - After school tutor

  • Jenny Luebke - In-school tutor

  • Becky Walters - In-school tutor and after school tutor/at risk/special ed tutor 3x/week

  • Joe Shuga - Co-ed Track Assistant Coach

  • Allan Egbert - Track & Field Assistant (Pole Vault Coach)

  • Krystal Loy - Varsity Assistant Softball Coach

• Approved to enter the program services agreement with the Midwest Regional ESC for Fiscal Year 2024

• Approved the following Resolutions of Commendation as presented:

Alaina Mann  – All-Ohio (2x), Academic All-Ohio, SCAL County Champion in 3200m with a time of 11:16.9 breaking the county record that stood since 1994, SCAL Runner-up in 1600m, District Champion in 1600m and 3200m, Regional Champion in 1600m and 3200m, and placed 4th at State in 3200m

Brittany Arnold – All-Ohio, SCAL County Champion in 1600m, SCAL Runner-up in 3200m, District Runner-up in 1600m and 3200m, Regional Runner-up in 3200m, placed 6th in 1600m at Regionals, and placed 11th at State in 3200m

Carson Brown – Academic All-Ohio, Set a new school record in the 3200m with a time of 9:54.74, SCAL Runner-up in 3200m, District Qualifier, and placed 6th at Regionals in 3200m

Collin Doseck – Academic All-Ohio

Grace Gutman - Academic All-Ohio, All-Ohio

Keaton Schnippel - Academic All-Ohio

Parker Schnippel - Academic All-Ohio

Addison Blindauer – All-Ohio

Sophia Bajwa – All-Ohio, Academic All-Ohio, Set a new school record in Girls Pole Vault with a distance of 10-4, SCAL Runner-up at Pole Vault, District Qualifier, placed 4th at Regionals, and placed 8th at State

Boys 4x200 – The team of Brady Steinke, Noah Greve, Austin Rogers, and Keegan Thorpe set a new school record with a time of 1:37.13, District Qualifier, and placed 15th at Regionals.

Boys 4x800 – The team of Keaton Schnippel, Carson Brown, Collin Doseck, and Carter Pleiman ran the 4x800 with a time of 8:28.15 at County and became SCAL County Champions, District Runner-up, placed 5th at Regionals, and finished 17th place at State

Girls 4x800 – The team of Brittany Arnold, Addison Blindauer, Grace Gutman, and Alaina Mann set a District record as Champions, SCAL Runner-up, placed 4th at Regionals, and placed 6th at State.

Carter Pleiman – SCAL Runner-up in 800m, District Runner-up in 800m, placed 11th at Regionals in 800m, 2023 Press Pros Shelby County League Scholar Athlete Winner, and received the Dale E. Creamer Honorary Scholarship by the Southwest District Athletic Board and OHSAA.

Colton Pleiman – SCAL County Champion in Shot Put with a throw of 129-5 and SCAL County Champion in Discus, District Qualifier in both Shot Put and Discus

Jana Metz – Discus: SCAL County Champion in Discus, District Runner-up, 3rd place at Regionals, and placed 14th at State

Shot Put: District Qualifier, and placed 13th in at Regionals

Lucas Arnold – SCAL Junior High County Champion in 1600m

Xavier Boerger - SCAL Junior High County Champion in High Jump with a distance of 5-5.

William Monnin - SCAL Junior High County Champion in Long Jump with a personal record of 18-7.25, and placed 15th at State

Adrienne “AJ” Spalding - SCAL Junior High County Champion in Shot Put

Katelyn Kinsella – Ohio FFA State Officer, received FFA State Degree

Bryan Trego – Ohio TORCH Recipient

Mallori Bruggeman – Placed 9th out of 125 writers in the Best in Round Essay at the State JustWrite Ohio Competition

Ella Aufderhaar – Received a Gold Rating Award for her Secretary Book at the State Convention

Logan Aufderhaar – Received FFA State Degree

Ava Egbert – Received FFA State Degree

Ryleigh Egbert – Received FFA State Degree

Tyler Egbert – Received FFA State Degree

    Aubree Topp – Received FFA State Degree

• Approved to hire Sophie Braun as student athletic worker as presented

• Adopted the athletic admission prices for the 2023-24 school year as presented and moves to set season passes at $95 for adults and $55 for students

• Approved the EPC to bid for a bus on behalf of the school as presented

• Approved the overnight trip for the FFA to attend the American Royal in Kansas City, Missouri October 13-16, 2023 

• Approved the overnight trip for the FFA to attend the FFA National Convention/National Judging Contest in Indianapolis, Indiana November 1-4, 2023
