The Botkins Board of Education met on March 13th for the regular board meeting and took the following actions:
Approved the minutes of the February 14, 2024 regular board meeting
Approved the Treasurer’s report by fund, general fund activity, the Investment Report, and the 5-year review of General Fund Activity as presented
Approved the Then and Now Purchase Order as presented
Entered Executive Session at 7:28 PM
Left Executive Session at 8:49 PM
Approved to non-renew all supplemental contracts effective at the end of the 2023-24 school year as presented
Adopted the resolution for the use of the school grounds for the Botkins Carousel as presented
Approved to accept tax rates of the Budget Commission as presented
Approved to authorize the purchase of competitive retail electric service as presented
Approved to hire Emily Jones as a substitute for the 2023-24 school year at a rate of $100 per day as presented
Accepted the resignation of Connie Smith as Bus Driver & Cafeteria worker, effective 3/8/2024 as presented
Approved to hire Craig Kohler as Substitute Bus Driver as presented for the 2023-24 school year
Approved Neola update to Board Policy as presented
Accepted the bid from Schnippel Construction to move forward with the Land Lab Project and Alternate 1 as presented
Approved to hire the following administrative & classified staff members for the contracts presented
Approved classified and administrative increases as presented
Accepted the following donations as presented:
$800 from the Roggenkamp family to be used for the Roggenkamp scholarship fund
$1000 from First National Bank to be used for the First National Bank scholarship fund
$163 from Meyer's Tavern to be used for the Girls' Basketball fund
$1000 from an anonymous donor to be used for the Girls' Basketball fund
$1000 from an anonymous donor to be used for the Boys' Basketball fund
Approved to hire Diana Tennant as Volunteer JH Track Coach as presented
Approved the following Resolution of Commendation as presented:
Bella Bucio – set 4 new school records:
1. 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.90,
2. 200 IM with a time of 2:17.58,
3. 200 Free with a time of 1:59.81, Sectional Champion,
4. 100 Backstroke with a time of 58.70, Sectional Champion, placed 10th in Div. II at State, fastest sophomore in the State
Gavyn Sanchez – Set a new school record in the 200 Free with a time of 2:02.10, placed 25th at Districts
Girls 400 Free Relay Swim Team – Team of Emma Roberts, Aubree Topp, Alaina Mann, and Bella Bucio set a new school record with a time of 4:02.40 and placed 13th at Districts; sectional runner-up
Girls 200 Medley Relay Swim Team – Team of Bella Bucio, Avary Hanby, Aubree Topp, and Emma Roberts set a new school record with a time of 2:03.48 and placed 18th at Districts
Boys 400 Free Relay Swim Team – Team of Reis Aselage, Gavyn Sanchez, Oliver Schmerge, and Carson Heuker set a new school record with a time of 3:34.25, placed 9th at Districts
Boys 200 Medley Relay Swim Team – Team of Carson Heuker, Conner Butcher, Reis Aselage, and Gavyn Sanchez set a new school record with a time of 1:49.06 (broke a 23 year old record)
Rory Mack – placed 1st in the Creed Division at Districts advancing her to State; received the highest placing from a Botkins FFA member in Public Speaking CDE in recent history by placing 2nd overall at the State Creed Speaking Contest in Marysville, OH; qualified to compete against the top public speakers from across the East Coast at the Big “E” in West Springfield, MA in September 2024.
Mark Carducci – Member of the Ohio Choir sang at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the State House in Columbus.
Coach Phil Groves – Received his 100th career win as a Varsity Head Basketball Coach.
